How the referral works

Residential customers can log in to Red Energy MyAccount, copy their unique referral code and share it with friends. Small business customers can refer by sharing their customer number and full name, which the friend quotes when signing up to Red. The referred customer needs to switch electricity and/or gas to an eligible Red Energy plan and meet the current offer terms.

Terms summary

Available to residential and small business customers in eligible areas of VIC, SA, NSW, QLD and ACT. The current offer period started at 12.00am AEDT on 19 January 2026 and runs until withdrawn. Rewards are issued after the referred customer's electricity and/or gas account transfers to Red, provided the referring customer still has an eligible Red account and has paid outstanding amounts. Reward codes must be activated within 3 months. Returning customers must not have held an active Red Energy electricity and/or gas account in the previous 24 months. Further exclusions and Qantas plan terms apply.

Under Red Energy's official "Refer a Friend" program, when a new customer switches their home electricity or gas services using a valid tracking link, both the referrer and the referee receive their choice of a $25 eGift Card or 1,500 Qantas Points. If you select the gift card route, you can choose from premium retail partners including Coles, Woolworths (Everyday WISH), Myer, David Jones, JB Hi-Fi, or THE ICONIC. To be eligible for the 1,500 Qantas Frequent Flyer or Business Rewards point payout option, the matching account must be active on an eligible Qantas Red plan.

Residential customers can easily complete their onboarding directly via a unique referral link shared from their friend's MyAccount dashboard. Alternatively, Red Energy allows a flexible manual override where the referee can call or sign up online and quote the referrer's full name and Customer Account Number during the application process or within 2 business days of signing up. The reward tracking completes and triggers the automated system once the friend's electricity or gas service has successfully transferred from their previous energy retailer over to Red Energy.

Red Energy enforces clear guardrails to maintain promotional integrity. The referral framework is available across active service networks in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, South East Queensland, and the ACT. There is absolutely no maximum limit or cap on the number of friends you can introduce, allowing you to stack rewards indefinitely. However, exclusions apply to returning customers who have held an active Red Energy profile within the preceding 24 months. Furthermore, once your transfer finishes, your 8-character unique alphanumeric reward code will be emailed to you and must be activated within 90 days, or the balance will be permanently forfeited.
